What Happens During Coaching Sessions?

coachingAs you know, I’m a wellness coach. But what exactly does a wellness coach do, and what can you expect from a coaching session? If you’ve been wondering, this blog’s for you!

We honor individuality.

Let me begin by saying, no two coaching sessions are identical, because I tailor each one to the individual’s needs. I work with clients on a variety of concerns, including weight loss or gain, stress reduction, changes in chronic health concerns, time management, changes in work or home roles and the desire for community/social involvement, to name a few. The concerns are unique as the people themselves. No matter the issue, though, you’ll find by taking the journey with me THROUGH the concern, you’ll emerge more confident and with a greater sense of vitality.

We both commit.

The relationship I form with each and every client starts with a contract of agreements. Together, we outline my responsibilities, as well as the client’s time, attention and financial commitment. After making our commitments, we get down to business and dive into his or her wellness concerns.

We identify purpose.

We examine these concerns in a holistic manner and cover body, mind and spirit, and we discuss overall goals, wishes and wants. These first few sessions are a time for me to get to know the client and map out what we’re going to be working on. I ask powerful, thought-provoking questions, use active listening and encourage the client to thoroughly examine inner feelings.

We take action.

Once we’ve gotten concerns and goals out on the table, we go to work! Together, we define steps to take. It’s my job to challenge, encourage and educate clients to help them achieve those goals. During each follow-up session, we evaluate the joys and struggles that occurred between sessions. What strategies did the client implement? What were the barriers to those actions? By working through the struggles together, we revise strategies to improve success. After each session, clients walk away supported, encouraged and with new techniques in their arsenal.

I, too, self-evaluate.

As a member of the International Coach Federation, I take my responsibility to each client very seriously. When we create our mutual contract, I am committed to you and your goals, so I set goals for myself. During sessions, my personal goals as a wellness coach are to begin building self-awareness, help set objectives and plans, build clients’ confidence and sense of self-worth, introduce tools and skills that become habits, educate, guide, motivate and foster self-accountability. I’ve got an infinite supply of techniques up my sleeve, so there’s never any worry about lack of resources. However, though I offer many solutions, it’s also my job to facilitate self-discovery in each client. The more breakthroughs that come from within, the more powerful the results. I love witnessing those powerful “a-ha!” moments again and again.

Don’t let your concerns or fears rule your life. Learn to conquer and believe in yourself to let your inner self shine through. Together, we can work to create a more fulfilling life by addressing body, mind and spirit.
