Get Back on Track With Your Wellness Goals

Most of us start out the year geared up and ready for wellness success. We prep our food, make time to meditate, create a workout schedule and dive in. The first couple weeks are usually full of success and motivation, but as the weeks roll on, it can be easy to slip off track. Instead of caving to the “I failed and might as well give up” mindset, try these ideas instead. You can pick yourself back up and find success again! Just keep going!

Revisit Your Why

What’s your reason for starting this wellness journey? Do you want better overall health? Weight loss? Reduced stress? More energy to play with your children? Dig deep and really think about your why. This is what will drive you to get back on track and stay on track. Write it out and put it places you will see it often – in your planner, on the refrigerator or on your dashboard. Remembering why is a powerful way to stay on track.

Drink More Water

This sounds so simple but is so important! It’s easy to do and will up your energy levels, decrease your appetite and fuel your body with a key ingredient it needs to thrive. Carry a large jug with you to finish by the end of the day. Download a fun app like Plant Nanny to remind you and motivate you to drink your water. Or set hourly reminders on your phone to drink 4 ounces of water. (Just remember not to drink TOO much, especially in a short period of time.)

Stock the Right Foods

If you’re focusing on overall wellness and nutrition, having the right foods readily available is key to your success. Have a prep day once a week to cut fresh veggies and fruits and even create freezer meals or make-ahead lunches. Cook double when you make dinner and stash one dish in the freezer for a later time. When foods are healthy and premade, it’s much easier to stick to your plan. And lastly, try new recipes to break the monotony. So often when we eat healthily, we stick to the same recipes over and over. Check out Pinterest for inspiration.

Move More

With exercise, if you’re not already a fitness guru, it pays to start small, and when you’ve fallen off track, you definitely want to ease back in. Aim for shorter workouts a few times a week to get you geared up. Work in relaxing stretching on off days and add more walking into each day by taking the stairs instead of the elevator and parking further away from your destination. If you’re having a hard time sticking to workouts, solicit a workout buddy to hold you accountable. If you don’t know anyone in person, try an online Facebook group for motivation.

Change Your Mindset

Being successful starts with your beliefs. You need a can-do mindset. You can achieve this by practicing positive self-talk and using affirmations. Instead of tearing yourself down, make sure your thoughts are building you up! Practice meditation for peace and focus, and allow yourself rest time. Don’t get caught up in the all-or-nothing belief.
