We all have something that we’ve been passionate about at some point in our lives. You might be thinking, “Here in mid-life, I am just trying to get through each day without falling apart!” If so, you’re not alone. It’s easy to get bogged down in the day-to-day tasks and jobs, then collapse on the couch for some mindless TV before bed. Before you know it, you look up and you have no hobbies, no play time and you’re longing for some fun.
Bring passion back into your life. Living a life of passion means you’re not bored or stagnant. You don’t feel stuck in a rut. Instead, you feel full of vitality and energy. You wake up jazzed to start your day and expecting some variety. When you live a passionate life, you’re stimulating all five senses and fully experiencing new things and old. So how do you go from boring and blah to energized and optimistic? Think about a few of these points.
Find Your Individual Passion
In order to live a passionate life, you have to know what you are passionate about and interact with it daily! What did you do as a child that filled you with joy? Did you love to paint, sculpt, help others or read? Think about the happiest points throughout your life and consider what you were doing regularly that made them so wonderful. Was it when you had babies to snuggle or plenty of time for knitting? Were you traveling more?
You can tap into those past passions and adapt them for today. Become a baby snuggler at your local hospital. Join a knitting group that knits items for the homeless. Take a painting class or find a new volunteer opportunity and commit to it.
Next, you have to be intentional about diving into your passion. Take that first step to get back into doing something regularly that brings joy to you — something just for you — and make time in your weekly schedule. It may not happen overnight, but begin to make them part of who you are again. The most passionate people are often somewhat identified with their passions — they are actually part of their identities. Live your passion. Breathe it. Dream it.
Live to Discover
Do you know many natural curious people or those who never want to stop learning? They are passionate, aren’t they? Take a page from their book and live to discover more about your passion and surroundings. Dive deeper and be open-minded and curious. Strive to understand all you can about your passion and the views of others. Keep fueling your desire to expand your mind.
No matter how much you like to live by schedules, spontaneity can be life changing. Go with the flow sometimes, and do things that are unexpected. If you’re looking to add a little excitement to your life, this is an excellent way. Get out of your comfort zone and say “yes” to more opportunities.
Living a life of passion also means living a life of love. Spread your love by sharing your passion and excitement, by showing your concerns for others and by getting involved in your community. You CAN become that passionate child again — just a few years wiser now!
